Idia M. Martínez Torres, M.A.

Idia is a licensed Public Relations professional with nearly 20 years of field experience and is currently a member of the Regulatory Board.

She has presided the Puerto Rico Association of Public Relations Professionals twice, in 2001-2002 and again in 2008-2009, periods in which she represented the organization as Principal Adviser before the International Confederation of Public Relations.

Idia has also taught Public Relations classes at undergraduate and graduate levels, at the Sacred Heart University and Turabo University. Additionally, she has spoken at diverse universities and professional educational activities, highlights of which are her participation as panelist at the XXIV Inter American Congress of Public Relations at Varadero, Cuba (2002) and at the V CONFIARP Forum at Havana, Cuba (2009).

Prior to beginning her career in Public Relations, Idia worked as a journalist and presenter in the local media. She has a bachelor’s degree in Public Communication from the University of Puerto Rico and a master’s degree in Public Relations from the Sacred Heart University, also in Puerto Rico, where she was awarded the Portico medal for leadership and academic excellence.

In 2005, Idia was named Successful Professional Alumni in Public Relations by the University of Puerto Rico’s School of Public Communication. Also, the Puerto Rico Association of Public Relations Professionals gave her its Outstanding Public Relations Professional award “Relacionista Distinguida” in 2010.


 
María De Lourdes Burgos, M.A.

A licensed Public Relations professional with 17 years of field experience, Lourdes has been actively involved in the development and growth of the profession in Puerto Rico as member of the Puerto Rico Association of Public Relations Professionals, of which she was president during 2009-2010.

In addition, Lourdes directed the Association’s 2009 Convention Committee, as well as its Ethics Committee in 2007, 2008, and 2010. She presided over the Association’s Regulation Committee that managed the final phase of the legislation that regulates the practice of Public Relations in Puerto Rico.

Lourdes has a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico, and a master’s degree in Communication with a major in Public Relations from the Sacred Heart University, also in Puerto Rico.

She is author of the thesis “Uses of Public Relation strategies by public officer attorneys” and currently teaches Public Relations at the Metropolitan University, within the Ana G. Méndez University System.

Lourdes is also current Vice President of Communications for the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America.
